Former Nanook hockey star and current St. Louis Blues defenseman, Colton Parayko, recently earned his degree from UAF. News 13's Michael Ives had a chance to talk with Colton about his recent accomplishments, both on and off the ice.
Classmates, teachers, administrators and parents gathered today at Hutchison High School to pay tribute to a pair of Hutch students that lost their lives on the Richardson Highway in July. Carmella Flynn and Theresa Runfola, both of whom were seventeen years of age, died in a head on collision on the Richardson Highway south of Delta Junction. Today, two lilac bushes were planted on the school grounds in memory and honor of Flynn and Runfola. About fifty students spent their lunch hour at the ceremony, as four of their classmates helped plant the bushes.
Around two-hundred people attended the installation of Susan Carney as Justice of the Alaska Supreme Court, which took place at the Rabinowitz Courthouse earlier this afternoon. Carney is replacing Justice Dana Fabe, who retired after serving more than twenty years on the State's High Court. The installation started out with welcome music featuring the Young Native Fiddlers, followed by the Alaska Flag Song, Administration of the Oath of Office, Robing, and then Addresses and Remarks by fellow Justices, Superior Court and District Court Judges.
